Editions

Forsaken Identity began life in the basement of a temporary gallery in Liverpool – a former paint shop that was requisitioned by a ‘collective of collectives’ during Liverpool Biennial 2010. It also began life as a one-off, but the stories we were told were intriguing enough for us to want to repeat the process again in another city. What we found, in that dusty basement, was that most participants seemed to treat the exercise as one of confession – either that or they really were all fantastic liars. And what we also discovered, and which we haven’t yet found a way to process, is that almost everyone told us the same story twice. Different times and characters, yes, but essentially they told us the same thing about themselves in each story. Interesting.

Edition #1: Liverpool

These stories are gradually being published online, here. Remember – what you read may or may not be true, and the images that accompany the stories may or may not be of the ‘real’ storyteller.

Edition #2: Manchester

We are currently looking for volunteers to be interviewed and photographed in Manchester (at Cornerhouse) on Thursday 14 July 2011. Sign up via the Participate page. All participants remain anonymous.

Edition #3: New York

Forsaken Identity moves to New York later this year. We’ll post more details nearer the time.

    Dear Susie, dear Alexandra,

in spite of being German and residing in Bavaria, I tune in on Heather Stott by way of the Internet every chance I get. Today I find myself truly amazed by the idea of yours about the Forsaken-Identity-Project. I hope you don’t mind my asking how the stories, result of this project, will be published – is there a book/ books that are/will be published? If yes, which are title, editorial and ISBN of said book? This seems an utterly intriguing side of the human soul you two are on the lookout for.
I would love to hearing of you about the forementioned data I have been asking of you, in order to get a closer view of the printed results of your project. Considering myself an avid reader I reckon this to be a very interesting reading matter.
Thanking you in advance for your kind attention I remain wishing you all the success this project in my opinion deserves

      Hi Monika
Many thanks for the kind words, and glad you like the project. We will be publishing the stories online, on this website. The Liverpool stories will go up over the summer, Manchester in the autumn and then the New York ones early next year. It would be great to collate the editions into a book but that’s very much dependent on funding (sigh) – the project is funded solely by Alex and I at the moment. But it is something we’re actively looking into (mainly as we both love print) and we’ll keep you posted. Thanks again for your interest!
      All the best
      Susie
